GE13: Sarawak Pakatan ready to deliver ’12-16 seats’

Sarawak DAP urged Malaysians and Sarawakians to come out in full force and minimise BN's alleged attempts at hijacking the public desire for change.

KUCHING: Sarawak DAP expressed deep worries that legalised illegal immigrants, foreign workers with voting rights, vote-buying and hedging bets will “hinder” Pakatan Rakyat’s march to Putrajaya.

Riding on a wave of popular discontent against Barisan Nasional, the Sarawak Pakatan pact is ready to deliver at least 12 seats towards securing Putrajaya. It is a conservative number that could go up to 16, claims Sarawak DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen.

But BN appears set to thwart Pakatan’s attempt once again. In the 2008 general election, Pakatan swept five states but failed to reach Putrajaya.

As Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak confidently reiterated last night that BN will retain his tenure, Chong urged Malaysians and Sarawakians in particular to come out in full force and vote for Pakatan.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, he said: “In two days we will be in Putrajaya but the BN’s underhand tactics of using illegal immigrants and foreign workers to vote, rampant vote buying and hedging bets, could hinder our progress.

“The thousands of illegal immigrants and foreign workers flown from Sabah and Sarawak to Selangor are certain to have big impact on the results of the election.

“The only way to counter and minimise the effects of these underhand tactics by BN is for all of us to go out on May 5 and vote.

“Our victory in the GE13 is very important to the country as it will give meaning to change of government.”

He said this was the ony way to change the government and end racism, corruption and abuse of power.

“It is also the only way to create a two-party system. The two-party system will set the trend for a change of government in future elections whether it is a Pakatan government or BN government,” he said.

He said the GE13 was a significant moment and all Malaysians should come out and become “agents of change”.
